In defence of Crafter guitars. Mine is amazing and so is its string action height. So good that I have demo'd many Taylors. I love them. But I feel zero need to pay that much money. That said, my Crafter cost me $25. It was smashed and the neck split. It's Crafter labeled Fishman electronics were fine and work perfectly. I'm a hobbiest woodworker and it just needed gluing and clamping (carefully). It also needed a nut and a saddle which went missing upon its accident. I measured carefully and ordered Graphtec TUSKs and they fit without any slot filing. I have expensive nut slot files and I am happy to use them, but no need. ANY GUITAR CAN PLAY AS WELL AS AN EXPENSIVE GUITAR WITH THE RIGHT SET-UP SO LONG AS IT"S NECK STAYS TRUE...THAT ISN"T HARD.

I left my violin practice because my ring finger could not move independent of my pinkie, but all of my friends (non-musicians) could effortlessly do so. This exercise looks super like a very effective way to achieve this. All stringed instruments (including piano) players can benefit from this

Yes and YES!!!! Lauren you nailed it. Having a decent but not great instructor, I get it. I felt intimidated, miserable and spent so much time doing scales and all those other things and never got a song I wanted to play. My new teacher. I said 'I can do Stray Cat Strut' but I need technique for the solos. Can we do this?" Old instructor 'no, too advanced'. My new instructor. "That's a great song for an intermediate player'. Let's do it." And my skill set improved dramatically. He gave me confidence. He gave me encouragement and after four lessons, I stopped being terrified of him and can play the solos decently and told him, 'ya, I can do this now. Let's keep going'. You have NO idea the pride I had. Also, another footnote. Playing partial chords - is really great when I have to learn a song quickly to play with someone else and the chord changes are rapid and I'm not familiar with the song. My G7 chord, for example, is just G# and the top strings. Saves time when I need to slam through it the first time. So, that's useful for anyone.

Lauren, I switched to a new guitar teacher recently. NIGHT and DAY. No more cranky. No more impatience and just encouragement. I thought of you right away. I am making significantly greater progress just relaxing instead of stressing. Learning 'Stray Cat Strut' and sweating through it. My old teacher 'well, no'. My new teacher "great song to learn on. Let's do it.' Wow. just like you. Encourage and not discourage. Thanks!
